Austin Film Festival Review: Texas Cult House
Some great components of Texas Cult House make it an enjoyable watch for new or old horror fans alike...The locations, all shot on writer-director Julia Barnett’s property, feel immersive and just far enough away from civilization to cause an appropriate amount of panic. The practical effects also feel like something that new and old horror heads can appreciate, as an introduction to the gorier parts of the genre, or a nice attempt at something that helps solidify the atmosphere of the film.”
The Austin Chronicle celebrates over 40 years as Austin's independent news source, covering music, film, arts, food, and politics with 600,000 readers per week in the greater Austin metropolitan area.
“Horror you can take your whole family to. There's a couple gnarly practical effects in this one and an especially good performance in the last 10 minutes that has me excited for the future of this series.”

“Writer/Director Julia Barnett unapologetically leans into familiar horror tropes while making her own mark on the genre with a unique take on cults. Adrianne Palicki of Friday Night Lights and The Orville fame, is terrific as the mother who knows her kids' absence is more than just high schoolers out having fun who failed to check in. Barnett teases a sequel at the end that is every bit as compelling as the entire film.”

“The story is filled with compelling characters worth rooting for. Adrianne Palicki, plays Brittney, the mother of two teenagers- Austin (Julius Royale) and Hadley (Lydia Tracy)…. The powerful ending left me intrigued and sets the audience up for more to come with the backdrop established by Barnett.”

“Barnett says if there’s one thing she’d like you to take away from the film, it’s this. ‘Sometimes we have to hold on to our faith, even when other people are trying to twist it and create fear.’ If that isn’t a timely message, I don’t know what is.”
